If you have not tried to hunt a mountain goat you are certainly missing one of the most underrated animals in North America. They are actually not a goat but more of a mountain antelope and are very tough considering where they live, high in the alpine. We have high goat populations with set quotas on the harvest. Hunting is conducted using various methods of transport. However, in the end you may have to backpack for the Billies (males). Many record Billies have been harvested with lengths achieving the 10"-10 1/2" and some breaking the 11"” mark. The average Billy will be between 9"-10" with 5 1/2" to 6" bases.
